An Iraqi Driver

In June I had an interview with a company in Cleveland, Ohio. After the interview was finished, I stayed at a hotel in Cleveland for one night. The next morning, I was heading back to New York.

There is an airport in Cleveland. But the company which interviewed me let me fly from the airport in Akron because it is cheaper. They also hired a shuttle company to pick me up at the hotel. It takes about one hour to get to the airport from the hotel.

Around 10:30 the car arrived and soon we were on our way to the airport. After five minutes, the driver started to talk. It sounded that he was commenting on a Chinese woman passing on the other side of the street. Neither of us are native speakers, so sometimes it took us a while to figure out what the other one was saying. And the awkwardness was there throughout the conversation. But after a while, it didn't bother us so much because we both became interested in the conversation.

Back to his comment, which I guess was a compliment, he said "Chinese women respect their body." Later I realized what he meant might be that Chinese women are sexually more reserved. Then he asked if I'm Chinese. I said yes and asked where he was from.
